MCA: Meaning, Eligibility and Job Opportunities

Introduction

Nowadays it’s very important to do post-graduation. From the past few decades, it has been very evident that just with the undergraduate certificate it’s tough to fight and survive in this society. Whether we choose any stream either science, commerce or arts PG is a must. Mentioning about science stream, there are various routes whose presence has ensured that B.tech and MBBS are not the only options.

There are so many other courses, available in under graduation and post-graduation for the students who come from the science background. One such PG course is Masters in Computer Applications (MCA).

Meaning

MCA is the next level of BCA that is Bachelor in Computer Application. This course aims to groom the software skills and strengthen the computer application aspect of students. They focus more on implanting the programming languages. Earlier it was a three-year course but now reduced to a two-year program. I

t is a great degree as after completing this degree, there is an increased employment opportunity for the student. Various details need to be known such as the eligibility, subjects involved, specializations, best colleges, scope, employment, etc.

Eligibility

Talking about the eligibility the candidate who is interested in this Masters of Computer Applications PG course, but has passed in the final year of the BCA UG course or any other equivalent course irrespective of the discipline he/she chooses. Then they must have mathematics as a subject in the higher secondary level or any one year of their graduation. 

There are different entrance exams, which the candidate needs to crack or pass to get admission to the desired college such as CMAT, BHU PET, NIMCET, UPSEE, TANCET, IPUCET.  After this, to get admission, the colleges either go for a merit-based or an entrance-based system. Scholarships are also available for Masters of Computer Applications.

Syllabus and Fees structure

Now,  the second aspect is the subjects and syllabus. The subjects are based on the semester wise, as there are 4 semesters in total. With along with 6 months we have to do. Like in 1st year the subjects are fundamentals of IT, operating systems, programming in C, database management systems many other like this. Talking about the course fees it ranges from college to college,. Where some private institutions can charge huge, as compared to the government ones.

Scope and Employment

There is a diversified career option by pursuing MCA that is Masters of Computer Applications like software developer, system engineer, programmer, system analyst, troubleshooter, web designer and developer, technical writer, software consultant, system administrator. The average starting salary can be between 3 to 5 lakhs. Now, this will increase in the later years along with the experience as the candidate gains.

Many colleges provide this course at the post-graduation level. Some of the best colleges that are treated as best for this degree are the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Mangalore, University of Hyderabad, MNNIT Allahabad, NIT Calicut, NIM Mumbai, VIT Vellore, and many others.
