What is Wind Turbine Technicians?

Wind turbine technicians install, maintain & repair the wind turbines.
Inspect the physical and external integrity of the wind turbine towers Climb wind turbine towers to inspect or repair the wind turbine equipment Perform routine maintenance on wind turbines. Test and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and all components and systems Replace worn or malfunctioning components Collect all turbine data for testing/research and analysis. Wind turbines are many mechanical devices that convert winds energy into electricity. The turbine is made up of three main components: a tower, three blades, and a nacelle, which is made up of an outer casing, generator, gearbox, and brakes. Wind turbine service technicians install, repair & maintain the components of these structures.
Maintenance schedules & determined by the running hours of the turbine, but can also vary by manufacturer of the turbine. The turbines are electronically controlled from a central office, 24 hours a day. When a problem is detected, wind technicians travel to the turbine site & perform repairs. Typical maintenance includes inspecting components and lubricating parts. For year-round turbines, routine maintenance can be performed one to three times a year.
Wind technician uses safety harnesses & a variety of hand and tools to get the job done. They also use computers to diagnose electrical faults. Most turbine control equipment is located in the nacelle of the turbine, which can be accessed from on-site & off-site.
Eligibility criteria for Wind Turbine Technicians

Most wind technicians learn their work by attending technical schools or community colleges, where they typically get certificates in wind energy technology, although some technicians choose to pursue an associate’s degree.
Syllabus
In addition to their courses, wind technicians generally receive more than 1 year of on-the-job training related to the specific turbines that they will maintain and service. Part of this training is manufacturer training. Other training may include an internship with a wind turbine service contractor company.
Scope of employment
The Employment of wind turbine service technicians is projected to grow 65% over the next nine to ten years, much faster than the average for other occupations. Because wind power electricity generation is expected to grow rapidly over the next decade, additional technicians will be required to install and maintain new wind turbines. Job prospects are expected to be excellent.
